Save Linburn academy

Save Linburn academy
The Issue
Glasgow city council have proposed that Linburn Academy(complex learning school) be relocated.Linburn academy is situated in Penilee,Glasgow. The council want to relocate the school to Kirkriggs primary school near Rutherglen. This would be over 7 miles from Linburn academy..There are many reasons why i think this is a bad idea.Firstly Linburn academy has great links with the community.Pupils have access to the Penilee community hall. This is where they have their afterschool clubs.Pupils also do work experience in the local community. This has been a formality for a very long time. The connection Linburn academy has with the community of Penilee is something to be proud of.The school is at the heart of the community. To relocate the school would be a terrible move for all involved. As Linburn is a school for secondary school children with complex needs. Some children can't travel more than 20 minutes on a bus to school. Some children in Linburn are what is classed as a "code red".This means that these children have to get to the local children's hospital asap.Currently our children's hospital is less than 5 minutes away.If the relocation was to go head. Then this would be putting our children's lives in danger. So this is a very serious matter. The staff in Linburn are simply amazing individuals. The care they give our children is like no other. Not only do they support our children. They're also our children's voices. Most if not all children in Linburn can't communicate. So the staff are our children's lifelines. Glasgow city council are saying that the Linburn building is not fit for purpose. But surely it was their obligation to maintain the building? Why did they allow this building to get in such a state? They say the building can't be upgraded. But back in 2010 said the exact thing about St Raymond's school in Castlemilk. But by some miracle it got upgraded & was fit for purpose. This was after our kids got put in different schools across the city of Glasgow. So my final words on this matter.Don't take away our kids school. They as human beings deserve the right to a good education. One where it's not putting their lives at risk. You as Glasgow city council have an obligation to listen to the parents/staff/community of Linburn academy. You have a "getting it right for every child" policy.Well this certainly is no were near getting it right.
