Why this petition matters

Started by Fiona Ferreira

The community of Kalamunda and surrounding suburbs are being increasingly targeted by crime, a lot of which happens at night, and the lack of a dedicated police station and presence is a major factor in the steady increase in incidents we are observing. People are having their homes broken into whilst they are home, some stores in the town centre are broken into two nights in a row, others have been targeted multiple times over the past few years.

Our dedicated police station is situated approximately 15 minutes away in Forrestfield and yet most of the suburbs this station needs to service are situated uphill (current district covers Bickley, Canning Mills, Carmel, Forrestfield, Gooseberry Hill, Hacketts Gully, High Wycombe, Kalamunda, Lesmurdie, Maida Vale, Paulls Valley, Pickering Brook, Piesse Brook, Reservoir, Walliston, Wattle Grove). This situation needs to be reassessed to ensure it is meeting community needs and crime prevention requirements efficiently and effectively, as the current focus of the Forrestfield police is predominantly on Forrestfield and Wattle Grove.

We call for the funding and reopening of the Kalamunda Police Station (closed since 1990) to restore safety to our peaceful community.
