i have had responses from the Department of Health and GlaxoSmithKline. Correspondence with them continues. There is of course far more to this issue than first meets the eye. Clearly there is a collective responsibility to contribute towards the responsible use of prescription medicines - GPS, NHS personnel, Pharmacy staff, Care Home Managers and importantly the public must all take responsibility for minimising waste. There have been programmes in the past to encourage a mindful use of medical resources and it is probably time for another campaign. Support for my petition has been disappointingly low compared to other more emotive petitions but the urgency of the issue is not diminished. I hope to be able to pursuade th Department of Health and other drug companies to join together to launch another nationwide campaign and indeed to run such campaigns regularly so that we all join together to actively assist in saving vital NHS funds. A report on the problem of waste of prescription medication in 2012 stated that wasteage in the U.K. is no worse than many other countries. Patients in most other countries however have to pay for their medicines and therefore use them more carefully and wisely so there is little to no burden on those health care systems.
