Yesterday I e mailed Matthew Hancock MP and Emma Walmsley (Chief Executive of GlaxoSmithKline) requesting a review of the policy which causes the destruction of thousands of pounds of unused, unopened, in date medication. I have spoken to various Pharmacists and opinions are divided. Some say that they are witness to massive levels of waste. Some say that the level of waste has fallen due to controls introduced in the system of prescription. All agree however that any further savings would be welcome so they can be ploughed back into the NHS. I will be contacting other pharmaceutical companies and will post a further update if I receive any responses.
