MAT102 2023 Winter Course Grading Petition

MAT102 2023 Winter Course Grading Petition
The Issue
Nearly all MAT102 Students have been victim of unreasonable grading whether it may be for Homework assignments, Quizzes, or even Tests. Students are not given a proper grading scheme even when requesting it multiple times. This results in students being unaware of where they lost marks and inevitably leading to lack of improvement.
We all receive "0" on many questions with little to no feedback. Even if feedback is given, it very clearly does not constitute such a large decrease in marks. For Term Test 1, the common belief was that it would mainly consist of Chapter 3 as the class was previously tested on Chapter 1 and 2, as well as the fact that all past midterms for this course consisted of only chapter 3. Knowing that many students shared this belief, the faculty left out all of chapter 3, and included only questions from chapter 1 and 2 which were harder than the ones done on previous assessments, and claimed that this test was "very easy".
Even on homework assignments, we are required to do 7 full pages of work for 7 different questions, and only 2 questions are marked at random. This really makes the students feel as though their hard work and time is insignificant.
I know many students have truly had enough and hate to see their hard work perish and result in little to no marks. The lack of support from this course's faculty leaves students confused and unmotivated, especially when many require a 73 in this course to complete the requirements for their major (a fact that the faculty is well aware of).
Please sign and share this petition so we as students can be heard and possibly do something about this before it is too late. Our mental health and futures are at stake and we must take action to ensure that all the hard work poured into this course does not dissipate at the hands of an unjust faculty with a hidden agenda.
