Resignation of Francisco Urena and Paul Moran Chief of Staff for the Dept. of Vet Svcs

Resignation of Francisco Urena and Paul Moran Chief of Staff for the Dept. of Vet Svcs

The Issue

The Department of Veterans' Services with Francisco Urena and Chief of Staff Paul Moran at the helm are directly responsible for the terrible tragedy that has occurred at the Holyoke Soldiers Home.  They are directly responsible for the loss of life of veterans at that facility and for endangering the health of the staff which cared for the residents there.  Secretary Urena has said "The buck stops here".  This is being laid at the feet of the superintendent and he is not solely responsible as his acts are dictated by those above him.  There will be wrongful death law suits filed by the families of deceased veterans and class action law suits by the employees which will cost the Commonwealth taxpayers an untold amount of money for the foreseeable future.  Governor Baker needs to demand the resignation of Francisco Urena and Paul Moran. Currently, there are three separate investigations on going one that the Governor has launched, one by the Attorney General's Office and a third federal investigation by the Department of Justice.  These although maybe necessary they are additional drains on the tax payers.  The Department of Veterans' Services is directly responsible for the toxic culture and systemic mismanagement of the department as a whole.  It is clear that this leadership team is unfit to lead the veterans of the Commonwealth and this petition is a clear indication of a vote of "No Confidence" and at this time we implore the Governor to demand the resignation of these two individuals so that healing can begin for all of families and and the community of Holyoke as well.
