Maspeth Dog Park: Transform an empty lot into a safe, beautiful and official dog run!

The Issue

Dear Maspeth Neighbors and Local Leaders,

Maspeth deserves a safe, clean, and welcoming space for dogs and their owners—a place that benefits not only pets but the entire community.

Currently, an unkempt parcel of land near the Frank Principe park (corner of 63rd Street and Borden Avenue) is being unofficially used as a dog run.

While a small group of dedicated volunteers works tirelessly to keep it usable (like cleaning up, providing a gate lock, changing garbage, providing waste disposal bags and chairs for owners), the space remains dirty, overgrown, and occupied by rodents at night.

We’re calling on you to support a petition to transform this neglected lot into a beautiful, officially designated dog park! By signing, you’ll help us give Maspeth the vibrant public space it deserves.

Key Benefits of an Official Dog Park

1. Enhancing Public Safety and Cleanliness:

We’re asking for upgrades to make the space safer and more hygienic, including replacing the dirt ground with mulch or gravel for easier maintenance and to keep dogs cleaner.

Additional dog waste disposal bins and bag dispensers would encourage responsible pet ownership, while installing much-needed lighting would make the park usable after sunset and before sunrise. These improvements would create a clean, well-lit, and welcoming environment for all.

2. Building Community Connections:

A designated dog park fosters relationships among neighbors and creates a sense of community. It’s a place where dog lovers can come together, share advice, and create lasting friendships.

3. Improving Property Values and Neighborhood Appeal:

Well-maintained public spaces increase property values and make neighborhoods more desirable. A beautiful dog park will enhance Maspeth’s reputation as a family- and pet-friendly area.

4. Encouraging Healthy Lifestyles:

A local dog park encourages regular exercise for pets and their owners. It promotes mental and physical well-being for both humans and dogs alike.

5. Making the Most of a Central, Underutilized Space:

Located near a playground and in a central location, this project would maximize the use of public land, creating a safe, shared resource for all.

Let’s turn an eyesore into a gem that brings our community together!

Sign the petition today and help us create a dog park that Maspeth can be proud of.
