The Issue

Who is impacted?
Members of the Widow's Sons Masonic Riders Association in South Carolina, and broader Masonic communities, are directly impacted by the current limitation that restricts Masonic license plates to cars only. This exclusion overlooks a significant number of Masons who express their identity and fraternity through motorcycle riding. By enabling Masonic motorcycle plates, we not only acknowledge their unique mode of fellowship and community service but also enhance their visibility and pride as Masons on the road.

What is at stake?
Allowing Masonic motorcycle plates in South Carolina will have a multifaceted impact. Firstly, it will affirm the state’s recognition of the diversity within the Masonic community, respecting their unique contributions to societal welfare and community service. Financially, a portion of the proceeds from these plates can support Masonic charities, provide aid for widows and orphans of fallen motorcycle brethren, and contributions to Masonic educational initiatives. If unchanged, however, members continue to miss on this opportunity for recognition and the potential charitable benefits are left unrealized, weakening the fraternal bonds and community visibility that are vital to Masonic outreach.

Why is now the time to act?
The landscape of recognition and support for our community groups is growing, and it's crucial that our state policies reflect this inclusivity and acknowledgment of all fraternal bodies. With the growing number of motorcycle enthusiasts within the Masonic community, there is a pressing need to offer these riders a symbol of their belonging and dedication to Masonic values. Moreover, as South Carolina sets this precedent, other states and potentially countries could follow suit, creating a global impact. Immediate action will not only benefit the Masons of South Carolina but can pave the way for a broader international movement supporting Masonic riders worldwide.

So what's next?
We're aiming to raise $10,000 to cover the $6,800 non-refundable sponsorship fee required by the SCDMV for the initial production of our Masonic motorcycle plates, plus marketing and administrative costs. Following approval, these plates will generate ongoing support for Masonic charities. Our immediate steps include submitting a detailed application to the SCDMV, complete with a marketing plan, our logo, proposed plate design, and proof of our nonprofit status. With your support, we can launch this impactful initiative and potentially inspire similar efforts globally.
