The animal shelter in Mason County, Kentucky is too small to house the number of dogs coming in. The facility is outdated, the kennels are tiny, and there are no indoor/outdoor runs. The shelter does not have a proper area to bathe the animals or a place for potential adopters to meet them. The shelter is currently so overcrowded that multiple dogs are being put into kennels together. Even unaltered dogs of the opposite sex are sharing kennel space because there is no room to separate them. Dogs are at risk for pregnancy, disease, and their living conditions are unsanitary. The ventilation system is inadequate and there aren't any kennels dedicated to puppies where they can be quarantined from older dogs.

The poor dogs are uncomfortable and miserable being crammed into the out-of-date building. Mason County is affluent enough to warrant not only a larger animal shelter but a modernized one where the animals can be happy and potentially find their forever home. We can and must do better for these animals.
