Support Collective Bargaining for Harford County Deputies

Support Collective Bargaining for Harford County Deputies
The Issue
The Harford County Deputy Sheriff’s Union, in partnership with the Harford County Correctional Association, is attempting to obtain Collective Bargaining legislation with the Harford County Government in order to negotiate salary and benefits.
For almost a decade, law enforcement and corrections deputies have not received step increases or cost of living increases that were promised in our FY2008 pay scale. As a result, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office is facing extreme recruitment and retention challenges. Sheriff Gahler has made restoring our salaries his top priority, but the County Executive sets the budget. County Executive Glassman has also said that salaries and personnel are his top priorities. It is the hope of the Harford County Deputy Sheriff’s Union that collective bargaining legislation will provide a mechanism to negotiate our salaries going forward so that we never again find ourselves in this situation. If we had such legislation in place in 2008, we likely wouldn’t be so far behind.
Thanks to the efforts of Delegates Mary Ann Lisanti, Rick Impallaria, and the other members of the Harford County Delegation, HB1431 has passed the House of Delegates and is now in the Senate. A hearing is scheduled for April 5, 2017 before the Senate Finance Committee.
Please sign our petition and contact your Senators to tell them that you support HB1431 and your Harford County deputies and that you want them to pass this crucial legislation!
