My son's father is from Mexico. He has lived in the US since he was 13. His legal documents are processing, and he has been waiting for his green card for 2 years or more now. He can not obtain a drivers license in Oklahoma because he first has to have a social. He can't have a social because his papers are still processing. It is the same for thousands of other undocumented individuals in Oklahoma & around the country.

Legislators need to know that Oklahomans considers immigration reform to be a priority. It is very important to have as many organizations, individuals, and all communities in Oklahoma support this necessary change, more importantly, to make that support known to our elected officials.

Surrounding states New Mexico and Colorado, as well as Washington, Connecticut, California, Utah, Nevada, Illinois, Maryland, Hawaii, Delaware, and Washington D.C and Puerto Rico require that all resident drivers are trained, licensed and insured. These states issue driver's licenses to all state residents, including immigrants with all kinds of immigration statuses.

Allowing immigrants to get driver's licenses could bring in an estimated 75,000 new clients and about $7 million in gross new revenue from permit and license fees. It would also reduce the drain on law enforcement and the court system.

Public safety ought to be the paramount importance. By removing immigration status as barrier to applying for a license, or a learners permit, would enable all Oklahoma residents to become trained, licensed and insured. This makes complete sense for the greater good and public safety of all Oklahoma residents.

Please take a minute to tell our Legislators you support drivers licenses for all Oklahoma residents regardless of immigration status and sign this petition. Thank you
