America Chavez is a new marvel superhero in the Marvel cinematic universe. This character will be played by Xochitl Gomez which is a Latina of Mexican decent. In the last years there has been movies such as west side story in which there are Puerto Rican characters being played by people that are not of Puerto Rican decent. These casting choices take away from actual Puerto Rican actors in the industry that are looking for work and want to give us proper representation. As a boricua I know that when my people are not properly represented in our media we don’t show out for our movies hence why “west side story” flopped in theaters  and why “in the heights” wasn’t a box office hit. Latinos need to have stronger representation in film. Why, with the little representation we have in the MCU do they cast a non Puerto Rican? That one, does not look like the character in the comics, and two, is of a different ethnicity of the characters culture she’s suppose to be representing. All Latino culture is different, they didn’t even put in the effort to find At least a Latina from one of the Caribbean country’s with more of a similar decent to America Chavez. Marvel must do better.  Signing this you will be helping better represent Latinos and other minority groups in media.
