Marvel's Spider-Man 2 : List of improvements from the fans to the devs
The Issue
SPOILER WARNING : Some of the following lists may contain spoilers for those who haven't completed the main game.
We would like to emphasize that your game is full of potential, and our goal as fans is to enjoy it over the coming years while awaiting the next title.
Hi Insomniac !
We played Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and for the most part, we had a blast. Overall, the game feels amazing. Both combat and traversal are better than ever. Concerning the story, character development is truly engaging, especially in the second act. The game delivered in a big way – a statement we can all agree on!
However, in discussions with the community, we identified some features and details that were missing from the overall game experience. As a result, we compiled a list of requests that we believe would enhance the game. We've sorted out the most feasible suggestions to forward to you, hoping to collaborate and refine the game even further. We're aware that some of the features on our list are already in the works.
GAMEPLAY
⁃ Add an option to get a symbiote suit as “default” for the symbiote surge. For instance: using classic Spider-man suit as the main skin and switching to the classic symbiote suit during rage mode.
⁃ Match symbiote tendril colors (black or white) to the suit the player is wearing (for powers and traversal boosts).
⁃ For Powers : possibility to assign abilities to any button. For example with Miles: assign both venom smash and reversed flux to the same in-game attack set for expanded combat possibilities.
⁃ Make the black webbed suit a symbiote suit (affecting the symbiote surge and traversal boosts).
⁃ Add the suits from the previous games.
⁃ Add a civilian outfit (or several) for Peter and Miles to wear.
⁃ Change Arms/symbiote parry animations based on the type of suit being worn (either regular or symbiotic).
⁃ More variety in finishers. For example, symbiote finishers are currently very rare to get.
OPEN WORLD
⁃ Increase variety in post-game crimes (currently, there are too many symbiotes-related crimes).
⁃ Time of day : Ability to choose both the time of day and weather conditions.
⁃ Add “Sandy New York” and the “Symbiotic City” as times-of-day settings.
⁃ Riding the bike part 1 : Let the player ride the Downtown Queens bike through the whole city (and make it available while wearing the civilian outfit of Peter Parker like in the Harry Osborn reunion Mission).
⁃ Reintroduce the car chase gameplay from the previous games (with an on/off toggle for those who favor a concise version).
⁃ Enable/disable Allies Assistance during open-world crimes.
⁃ Possibility to go back to Coney Island and enjoy attractions as civilian Peter or Miles at any time.
⁃ Let the player go back into Aunt May’s House and Mile’s apartment at any time. Additionally, enable visits to other location like the Jazz Museum, FEAST, Grand Central Station for example.
⁃ Possibility for Peter to play Mysterium challenges once Miles has completed them.
⁃ Reintroduce Interactions with random people in the streets (like the previous games).
⁃ Replayable crimes from FNSM app (like in Miles Morales).
FEATURES
⁃ New Game+ : Allow players to wear any costume at any time of the story, including the final mission, without cutscenes altering the chosen outfit).
⁃ Make missions replayable.
⁃ Make enemy bases replayable.
⁃ Return of the character bios.
⁃ Ability to replay JJ and Danika podcasts in Collections.
⁃ Points of interest on the map (Empire State, Sanctum Santorum…).
⁃ Photo mode : possibility to toggle off the AR displays like wind tunnels, enemy highlights, spider-sense, etc.
⁃ Within Photo Mode : enable or diable the battle damaged suit.
⁃ Reintroduce Selfie Mode.
⁃ Add Diverse rendering modes/visual filters (for example : comics, sepia, black and white…).
PARAMETERS

⁃ Option to enabled/disabled Surge mode.
⁃ Comprehensive HUD customization (enable or disable health bars or web-zip reticle, spider-sense, etc…).
⁃ Option to enabled/disabled Battle Damaged suit (including an option to maintain the battle-damaged look permanently).
⁃ Boss checkpoints — enabled/disabled option.
⁃ Full controller remapping option.
⁃ Ability to turn off DualSense audio and play it through the monitor.
⁃ Introduce a larger size for subtitles/captions option.
⁃ For the Spider-Verse suits, enable FPS and comic effects toggle by default.FPS and comics effects toggle enabled by default for the spider-verse suits.
⁃ Offer the ability to turn off or desaturate symbiote mob colors, especially the pink and green ones, to ensure consistency with the game's overall aesthetic.
⁃ Provide an option to adjust the timing for parry/dodge to be more restrictive.
⁃ Make sure there is no initial tutorial when starting a New Game+.
SUGGESTIONS TO KEEP THE OPEN WORLD ALIVE
You've created a New York more vibrant than ever before and we love your work. We hope to enjoy every nook and cranny of this city with these suggestions that will delight all players looking to expand their experience. Many of us were hoping for boss battles in the city.
Example: we feel like it’s a missed opportunity for the Venom’s fight shown in the CGI trailer and the concept art.
⁃ A Boss Arena game mode, which may take place in the City just like in the first game, players could potentially encounter Taskmaster and battle him throughout the entire city, it would be the same but with a boss of our choice (Venom, Octopus, Lizard, Kraven etc… through all New York).
⁃ Boss Rush Mode Arena (For example, players can face all the game's bosses in succession.)
⁃ Introduce random encounters with Venom in ACT III during free roam, similar to Taskmaster's surprise appearances in the first game.
⁃ Enhance the chaos in the streets during ACT III. For instance, introduce additional factions battling the symbiotes during the "Symbiotic City" segment. Amplify the overall action by adding scenarios like civilians in distress atop buildings or on the streets, and police requiring assistance against the symbiotes.
⁃ Introduce an open-world section featuring Venom, reminiscent of the "Venom Rampage Mode" from "Ultimate Spider-Man."
⁃ Implement a suit-switching feature, akin to the one in "Web of Shadows," that allows players to toggle between their primary suit and a chosen default symbiote suit, along with the associated powers. As an example, in "Web of Shadows," players could transition from the Classic Suit to the Symbiote Suit (and vice versa) by pressing the R3 button.
⁃ Permit Peter Parker to engage in domestic activities at his home, such as cooking, sitting in a chair, or lying in bed. Additionally, offer an optional feature where players can watch MJ working at her desk.
⁃ When the costume becomes damaged during gameplay, players could return home to repair and clean it.
FUNNY SUGGESTIONS
⁃ Offer the ability to casually stroll through NYC streets as either Miles or Peter.
⁃ When the mask is damaged, provide glimpses of Peter's or Miles' face, reminiscent of the scenes in Sam Raimi's first "Spider-Man" film.
⁃ Allow players to remove the mask(on/off) from each costume as a bonus feature upon completing the game.
⁃ Allow players to revisit Stan Lee’s restaurant.
OTHER SUGGESTIONS
⁃ Allow players to select specific symbiote powers to be equipped in surge mode when Peter's regular arm abilities are set.
⁃ More trial challenges (Races, Combat, Stealth…).
⁃ Introduce more trial challenges, including races, combat, and infiltration tasks.
⁃ Incorporate larger scale random crimes, such as rescuing people from a burning buildings.
⁃ Add jet-ski chase sequences.
⁃ Integrate a Social Feed feature, similar to previous games, which can enhance the ACT III narrative context, for instance.
⁃ Riding the bike part 2 : Allow Peter to use a bike as a mode of transportation, much like in GTA, with the ability to mount and dismount, and pick it up from where he last left it.
⁃ Chrysler Building ?
⁃ Squirrels ? (Just for fun!)
BUGS
⁃ The cube suit when we change the our suit (even if it was fun).
⁃ The One World Trade Center building occasionally vanishes.
⁃ Spider-Man can sometimes go through the trains at the station.
⁃ Tutorial prompts persistently appear, even when toggled off, such as the “press R2 to swing” instruction during the Lizard chase scene.
⁃ Exiting a district might unintentionally trigger the "exiting playable area" warning.
⁃ Crimes disappear when you get there.
⁃ Upon destroying a turret, there are instances where the crime objective becomes uncompletable.
⁃ Vertical fans sometimes don’t give the altitude boosts.
⁃ Game crashes have been reported.
⁃ There are cutscenes, especially toward the story's conclusion, where the symbiote effects malfunction.
⁃ Issues with bike mechanics, notably the front wheel embedding into the ground.
⁃ Sometimes subtitles are out of sync.
There it is, all of the community ideas regrouped at the same place.
We hope most of those requests aren’t too unrealistic, we are conscious that developing a game like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 represents a lot of work, and all fans enjoyed and respect the efforts and love that were put into this game.
Let’s make the game even greater, together.
Your fans.
