Marvel Needs to Undo the Offensive Xmen Blue Origins Retcon

Marvel Needs to Undo the Offensive Xmen Blue Origins Retcon
The Issue
I have decided to create a petition to ask Marvel to undo a retcon that has caused great offense to multiple communities and should never have happened. Key reasons:
1) BADLY PORTRAYING AN LGBTQI+ COUPLE
Prior to the Blue Origins retcon, the couple Mystique and Destiny had a lesbian/bisexual relationship and adopted a little girl to be the child they could never have together. The lesbian/bisexual element of this relationship was removed with the introduction of this retcon in 2023. The key reason being that lesbian/bisexual couples cannot reproduce. A sore fact among many and hence, many les/bi couple choose adoption as Destiny & Mystique once did. Now Destiny and Mystique CAN reproduce together and the relationship has been newly claimed by the transgender community with Mystique in particular being claimed by the transgender community. This has caused great upset among the lesbian/bisexual community as this rep was taken away to be replaced with another, rather than just making new characters for other representation. Many lesbians and bisexuals in online communities reported being upset, offended, hurt and dismissed by this retcon.
2) IT INSULTS AND DISMISSES ADOPTED CHILDREN
Rogue is the name of Mystique and Destiny's adopted daughter. The child once special to them whose relevance served being the child of a lesbian/bisexual couple who could not reproduce together. Now that this has changed, so has Rogue's purpose in the family. Her reason for adoption was once because she was destined to be "special" with unique abilities. Now that Destiny & Mystique could have had their own daughter all along & now that Mystique has been given bizarre and new "geneshaping" copy machine abilities, Rogue's purpose is null and void. So what is the new reason for her adoption which Simon Spurrier crudely retconned? It is quote; to be "saved from pimps" at age four. Moreover, this retcon adds new insight into Chris Claremont's decision to have Mystique be able to kill Rogue in a simulation but not her son Nightcrawler. Nightcrawler came from Destiny and Rogue was merely adopted. So Rogue has been completely degraded and made lesser than her brother. Biological ties are now more valued by Marvel than adopted rep. Moreover, Rogue's lovely childhood with Mystique and Destiny became all about Kurt. Mystique's feelings for Rogue were misplaced as she pines for her real baby. So now Nightcrawler dominates the once happiest part of Rogue's narrative like a dark cloud.
3) IT'S PLAIN MISOGYNISTIC
I find it very problematic that Nightcrawler, a male character and incest-loving, cult leader ex priest was rewarded for his bad deeds and given messiah treatment and biological validation over the adopted daughter Rogue and him being made more special and important than her, even down to him becoming Spiderman to sell more comics. In Krakoa era there is a cover with just Nightcrawler, Destiny and Mystique and in Destique's wedding, Nightcrawler is front and center on the cover next to Destiny and Mystique and the adopted daughter Rogue is a shadow in the background among the other minor characters. So sadly Rogue has physically been pushed out of this family but with her own birth mother dead, is not even afforded her own. Simon Spurrier, the same man who wrote this retcon, also wrote that Nightcrawler LUSTS AFTER HIS MARRIED, ADOPTED SISTER ROGUE and made this canon. This to me is saying to men if you treat women badly or act like a creep, you get rewarded for it. It is sadly on brand for Kurt to behave this way. In another instance of dismissing adoption, Claremont had Kurt abandon his Catholic religion and sleep with his other adopted sister, Amanda Sefton. Many Nightcrawler fans try to defend this by saying they aren't blood related but unfortunately, in their efforts to defend Kurt, they are completely dismissing and disrespecting the concept of adoption and adopted children being just as much part of the family as biological children. Moreover, as Rogue is a character with a history of being targeted by male writers to be exploited and objectfied, she deserves better. It was Claremont who had Rogue get gang sexually assaulted by multiple men in Xmen Inferno while wearing a degrading collar on her neck like an animal. It was also Claremont who had Rogue, a young woman at the time, have her virginity taken and be exploited by a much much older man who she became "sugar baby" for. Said man, Magneto, has daughters Rogue's own age but was only thinking about one thing. And the fact they want to put Rogue through this again with her first solo comic in years being a reboot of this exploitation and objectification? It is disgusting how the writers have treated Rogue in particular and how they have gotten away with this for so long. PS, one could argue the erasure of lesbian/bisexual rep was also a misogynistic factor.
4) DESTINY & MYSTIQUE HAVE BECOME A TOXIC COUPLE WHICH AGAIN HURTS LGBTQI+ REP
Destiny was once portrayed as a guiding light, a moral compass if you will for Mystique. Which is why when she died, Mystique struggled without her and made terrible life choice after terrible life choice. They may have been villainesses but they were loving and loyal to eachother. This changed when Destiny was resurrected Pet Sematary style. She came back worse and she came back as an antagonist to her own wife. She tries to persuade Mystique to sleep with men while they are in a relationship to create a son she never even wanted. Something that the writer did to try make this retcon make sense - which shows how wrong it was in the first place. Destiny never would have done this before. Then Destiny becomes revealed as a terrible wife whose relationship with Mystique is built on lies and betrayal. She again persuaded Mystique to get her mind wiped of any memory of their son while she keeps notes in secret to remember behind her wife's back. They constantly fight in ways they didn't and this is due to a personality clash since both women are now out of character. Within 5 minutes of finding poor little Rogue to adopt, her adoption was retconned so that Mystique and Destiny were fighting about their son over this sleeping child's body. Even in Rogue's big moment - her adoption, Nightcrawler took center stage. And Mystique and Destiny became a moody, aggressive, bickering and toxic couple to serve him. Something they never were before.
5) DESTINY & MYSTIQUE HAVE BEEN PERMANENTLY MISCHARACTERIZED
As I have touched on, Mystique and Destiny are now permanently out of character. When Rogue died in Xmen the End, Mystique was raging but didn't even shed a tear. But she was made a blubbering mess over Nightcrawler. A child she willingly abandoned because he looked like her. Self hatred projected onto him. Just as she abandoned her son Graydon for being useless to her, something they did not retcon yet we are supposed to now pretend it is not in her nature. Mystique breaking down in tears of joy over Kurt suddenly is not realistic and neither was the weakening of her character so that she is no longer responsible for her own decisions. This doesn't even make her an anti-hero, it just makes her a victim of her wife and Xavier. Yet Marvel do a wedding comic and expect us to root for a couple they now made abusive? Nah. Destiny was just made Mystique 2.O and lost originality. Rather than presenting Mystique with her visions and letting Mystique act as she chooses, she now tells her what to do like a drill sergeant. Mystique used to hate Gambit and meddle in Rogue's life, now Destiny does. Destiny who used to be the TOLERANT, rational mother who knew HOW to be a mother and who is quoted as telling Mystique not to "be so jealous" and to let Rogue interact with boys or else she would lose her. In Necrosha, the last time Destiny was resurrected, she said goodbye to Rogue and told her she was proud of her future. Now Destiny has returned, she is not proud and acts like she never saw Gambit ending up with Rogue when they were literally love interests and she predicted that Mystique would get with Forge post mortem no problem? I miss the real Destiny and Mystique. Tolerant, moral compass Destiny who was the better, calmer mother, who respected Rogue's decisions and who hated conflict. I miss Mystique being a strong villainess who was her own person not her wife's puppet. Also in 700 Destiny and Mystique abandoned Rogue. They always wanted to be part of her life. Destiny just came back and didnt spend a single loving moment with her daughter. She just ordered her coldly to do a mission. So the love they had for their daughter is gone too.
6) AGEISM
Destiny was elderly before, she was resurrected to be young. Considering Mystique looks young but is older than Destiny, it was not problematic for Destiny to be elderly and it was sweet LGBT rep for an older generation. This too has been erased.
7) IT CREATED COLLATERAL DAMAGE PLOT HOLES
Rogue's adoption suffered in particular. It is now all over the place and we now have two versions of it, one with an elderly Destiny, one with a young Destiny. Claremont and co. cared so much about Nightcrawler's past in detail, they were willing to let Rogue's be insulted and messed up and become incoherent. Nightcrawler's relationship with Azazel and their prior narratives together also seem illogical now.
8) ROGUE IS NOW WRITTEN OUT OF CHARACTER
After all that has happened to Rogue and her family, Rogue not even addressing the changes or addressing how poorly her mothers have treated her or how odd they have been acting is bizarre to me. The fact Destique had more wedding guests at their wedding than Rogue did including Captain Marvel was also completely nonsensical. Rogue would never even ask Carol to come to her mothers' wedding. When Destiny comes back, a mom who she loves and missed, she didn't even cry or hug her? But then again, these same writers have forgotten Rogue has a Southern accent and apparently think she lives in Missouri according to the preview of Savage Lands 2025 so that's where we're at now.
9) IT WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL INTENTION!!!
I want to put his fake rumor to bed. Destiny and Mystique were not supposed to be Kurt's original parents, a fake rumor some agenda fuelled Claremont stans have wrongly spread. Dave Cockrum and Len Wein are Nightcrawler's original artist and writer, when given options for who they wanted as his father they chose a character called Nightmare who looks very very similar to Kurt. Nightmare's power also includes teleportation so it's quite apt. Alas, they could not use Nightmare at the time, he was off limits because he was being used in Dr. Strange at the time. So although Claremont gave them the German Baron as the father, Chuck Austen later came along and gave them Azazel. A close consolation prize to not having Nightmare but a character similar enough. Claremont was very vocal about not liking this and not liking the fact he did not have the last word. Quite petty stuff really. But anyway, that's when Claremont said he wanted it to be Destiny and Mystique. He basically used LGBT as a prop, an emotional blackmail tool to get his own way. Which I find despicable personally. And just because they are gay does not mean this retcon fits or was designed to be this way because unfortunately, it doesn't and wasn't. But more than anything, Cockrum and Wein are now deceased and voiceless. They died thinking Azazel was his father although until their dying day wanted Nightmare. So Claremont and his fans disrespected their wishes.
10) CLAREMONT NOT WANTING KURT'S DAD TO BE A DEMON IS A TERRIBLE EXCUSE
It's terrible because firstly, Azazel looked like a demon but is a mutant. Kurt is literally a blue version of him. So to insult Azazel is to ironically, insult Kurt and the way he looks. But anyway, what if Nightcrawler's dad is a demon? Claremont already put into motion that Nightcrawler would abandon his religious aspect, become a lover of lust and incest, and he started his own cult in Krakoa. If you are confused with the TV show and are putting your religious beliefs into a character that has become anything but holy, that's on you and that's contradictory. I think Chris Claremont has his priorities all wrong considering he was willing to throw his own female characters and Rogue's origins under a bus for a male character that he didn't even create. Not worth it.
11) MYSTIQUE NEEDING TO SLEEP WITH A MAN FIRST TO PROCREATE IS HORRENDOUS
I mean this falls under misogyny anyway in my opinion but the fact Mystique can now only procreate if she sleeps with a man first is pretty disgusting. And illogical because if she is a gene shaper and boasts about her "perfect chromosome control", why did Graydon Creed her first son be born a powerless human to her disgust?
12) ERASURE OF THE BLENDED FAMILY CONCEPT
Ironically, Kurt having a different father to Rogue represented a blended family concept so it was actually more inclusive before than now.
CONCLUSION
Overall nothing good came from Blue Origins. Too much was done to bend over backwards for the male character Nightcrawler and I don't feel it was worth it. It definitely wasn't worth the insulting damage it did to the female characters involved and breaking apart this family.
THIS SHOULD BE UNDONE ASAP. FUTURE COMICS WITH THESE CHARACTERS BEING SO BROKEN WILL NOT WORK UNTIL THIS GETS FIXED. SO NOT 5 YEARS, NOT 10 YEARS, NOT 40 YEARS, NOW.
PLEASE SIGN AND SUPPORT. FOR WOMEN, LESBIAN/BISEXUAL COUPLES AND ADOPTED FOLKS EVERYWHERE.
