Give Us The Amazing Spider-Man 3 / Give Spider-Man A Boyfriend
The Issue
[Potential Spoilers For SM NWH & Venom LTBC] Okay, so Kevin Feige made a 6 film deal with Sony that would grant the MCU rights to the character until the series concluded. But as we've seen from the post-credit scenes of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home, the two organizations are more than willing to renegotiate the ways in which their films can coexist. Now here's why I personally want an Amazing Spider-Man 3:
Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker isn't finished healing. Our man was suffocating under the weight of all the guilt and loneliness he acquired over his series. And in Spider-Man No Way Home, it’s made clear that he's still in so much pain after all these years. He's yet to forgive himself or to recognize that everything that happened wasn't at all or at least entirely his fault.
He needs to be given scenes that parallel the ones from Spider-Man 2 in which Maguire’s Peter confesses how Uncle Ben died to Aunt May and she helps him live with himself by forgiving him and reassuring him that he is still a good person. He also needs to find someone else to love and support him just as Gwen Stacy did.
It was just so heartbreaking to see Garfield’s Peter in such immense pain. Guy was so desperate to make a connection with the other Peters and the broken look on his face after he saved MJ, god it was devastating. It goes without saying that he (along with all other Spider-Men) deserves better.
Finally, onto the boyfriend aspect:
It doesn't really have to be a guy that he gets with, at the end of the day I just want him not to feel so alone, I want him to feel loved again. As for Peter Parker's sexuality, as far as I know, he has never explicitly stated his. And even if he had, his characteristics vary depending on the timeline and/or writers. Therefore Peter Parker does not have to be universally straight.
And why should he when such a large portion of his fan base is LGBTQ, a group of people that have been incredibly under-represented and misrepresented for centuries and his character has been explored in so many unique ways already? There is literally a universe where Spider-Man’s body is composed entirely of spiders.
And let’s not forget that Peter Parker’s bisexuality has been canonically hinted at in the past as well. Here’s a video that I think covers one part of that subject quite extensively and convincingly by exploring the character's lengthy and complicated history with Wade Wilson in the comics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bE9kddjKHJE If the link is broken for you, search “Are They Gay? - Deadpool and Spider-Man (Spideypool)” on YouTube.
I’d also like to note that both Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield have voiced their support for a bisexual/gay depiction of the masked vigilante on several occasions.
If you think Garfield’s Spidey deserves to have his story continued and be given a second chance at (potentially queer) love, sign and share my petition, thanks!
