Change the Avengers: Endgame ending
Change the Avengers: Endgame ending
The Issue
One would think that people move on.. but not us. There are more important issues than the fate of comic characters, and yet this petition is here to show how fans feel after watching the ending of Avengers: Endgame where our beloved character Steve Rogers was involved.
The Avengers: Endgame for Steve Rogers is completely out of character. This movie was beautiful and had a lot of wonderful moments to end ten years of an era for which the whole fandom is grateful, and yet the ending as said by many was ruined by the way it was done. While it is understandable why the writers chose to go down this path to Steve's "happy" ending, what was achieved was an ending with many plotholes and severe discharacterisation. We have seen throughout the time how Steve Rogers is a man out of time trying to adjust to this century. And while he does have a longing feeling back home - Steve is a character meant to inspire everyone, and also veterans, that in the end it is possible to move on regardless of what happens.
Steve Rogers said himself in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" how the man who wanted stability went under ice and someone else came out, which only gets proven further in The Winter Soldier where he makes a list to try and adjust to the future. He has gotten himself a new family (The Avengers) and is heavily relied on both as a friend and a hero. The whole story of Captain America also happened to be based on how he needs to save and protect Bucky Barnes, which is a relationship and dynamic that is completely ruined in Endgame. The reason as to why this happened is unknown, and yet it is visible and clearly there. It is out of character for someone like Steve to break the promise of "till the end of the line" with someone who stoos by him from the very start, and to many it seems odd how a man who fought this hard to get his friend back leaves him behind.
James Barnes faces the exact struggles as Steve in the 21st century - and though he does have support from the other Avengers it is not unlikely that he needs someone closer to "home" to get him through.
Not only does this ending ruin Steve's whole triology (where he fights to get his friend Bucky back, and suddenly leaves him exchanging only a couple sentences), but also the development of Peggy Carter. For the Marvel fans that have seen the show and watched The Winter Soldier it is known that Peggy had a life and a legacy of her own, and her deathwish was for Steve to live his life. Margaret told Steve that "all one can do is start over" and she also ensured the two got the closure they needed for Steve to move on. Her wish was by Steve completely disregarded by his actions, which is found by many to be incredibly out of character for him as Peggy was always his "compass".
Another reason as to why this petition is created is because this erases the importance of Sharon Carter who is last seen in Civil War. Sharon Carter served as Steve's love interest and was Peggy's niece - but all of a sudden happened to disappear out of the picture. Where did Sharon Carter go, and how did Steve Rogers make the sudden impulsive decision to go back in time for a woman with whom he got closure?
In short, in many ways this sends a wrong message to people trying to move on (that one can't move on), but also leaves fans with a feeling that the movie had a lot of plotholes and was out of character. Sign this petition if you feel the same!
