PETITION FOR A FULL SERVICE ANIMAL SHELTER IN MARSHALL COUNTY MISSISSIPPI

We the residents of Marshall County Mississippi, Petition our City and County - Government leaders who have a Civic responsibility for Animal welfare in this county, for the building and financing of a Full service animal shelter.

In the last several decades, as the resident population has increased greatly in this county as well as neighboring ones, so has the Feral Pet population and dumping of animals in many parts of this county. This County has never provided any real services or taken on any real role in remedying this burdensome situation. Residents believe it is time that our County and City Governments follow in the footsteps of our comparable neighboring counties, and take on some of the multi-faceted responsibility and get actively involved in pursing a venue to remedy this situation. For decades, our leaders have averted taking any action on this issue and have forced all of the moral, legal and financial responsibility upon the residents of this county as well as our neighboring counties.

For years when we've contacted law enforcement and leaders of this county for help, we've been told to "deal with it". Government has left the burden of this problem upon the backs of private citizens, while forcing us to be "animal control" telling residents to "shoot feral animals" completely ignoring this problem, while time and time again abandoning us on this issue.

We're now asking our Government leaders to actively pursue the building and financing of a shelter in this county using our tax dollars.  It is our governments legal, moral and financial responsibility to provide a means to help shelter and provide humane care for these animals and stop forcing taxpayers to accept legal and financial responsibility for the caring for and "euthanasia - inhumane killing" of these animals.

Many of us for years have put ourselves in Legal, Moral and financial jeopardy from law enforcement and animal rights groups while being told by law enforcement and other Government authorities to "Shoot - euthanize - deal with it " ourselves , or continually we've jeopardize our own well being because we've tried to care for and re-home these animals in our own homes, at our own expense, risking our own health and financial welfare.  Residents are not legally, morally nor financially obligated to do these things, but many of us have done it time and time again because it's the RIGHT THING to do. Our government should feel the same way.

We're now asking our leaders to do THEIR part in taking on a legal, moral and financial role in dealing with this burdensome problem.
