Hi All:

I'm not hearing from any of my connections to the White House- so I'm stepping up on outreach on Linkedin & Twitter:

  On LinkedIn :

How can I get this 2 #PresidentBiden ASAP? Who can #help? - 104 year old Actor-vist #MarshaHunt Has Over 7 Decades of Activism; Deserves Presidential Medal of Freedom -sign https://chng.it/RHbWb4QX Read Martin Sheen's letter of support 4 honoring Marsha. Need 2 FAST TRACK this as Marsha is 104 ..I never expected that it would be so hard to get to folks at the White House- but it is...I'm determined to make this happen.. and because there isn't a nominating committee for this award, the only way to get Marsha this award is to get the President's attention. please click on the link for the petition- and see what I feel Marsha Hunt deserves this important honor- and by all means, sign the petition- and if the spirit moves you, donate a few dollars to keep the petition going on Change.org.. many many thanks- roger

Please see the attached excerpt from a letter of support from Martin Sheen to President Biden. The full letter is available to view via my Twitter page @rcmemos. I have included the full text of the letter below for your reference.

I decided to keep going on the petition. Maybe if we get 5000 signatures, we'll get some press. Now that the infrastructure bill is signed, hopefully the President will have more time to support this honor for Marsha.  As I mentioned in my Facebook post this morning, I just saw Marsha a few days ago- and she brought up that perhaps people don't remember her as she hasn't worked in awhile.. I reminded her about the documentary- and read her supportive emails from people who saw the film .. I even called a few fans- and they spoke with her!  Her spirits soared and she was genuinely touched.

Thanks everyone for your ongoing support! We WILL Make this happen ASAP- Have a great week everyone!!  rog

Dear President Biden,

It was recently brought to my attention that an effort is currently underway for Marsha Hunt to be honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  At this time in our country and world, role models are very much needed who exemplify the ability to overcome adversity and work as change agents for the greatest good.  Miss Hunt is the ideal role model to inspire and activate citizens to effect meaningful change.  Her nearly 70 years of activism using her celebrity as a springboard to bring a spotlight to issues of national and international importance paved the way for many others to do the same.

Miss Hunt turns 104 years of age next month — her life has encompassed two deadly pandemics, and the darkness of the advent of McCarthyism that brought her bright acting career to a screeching halt when she was blacklisted without cause.  Amidst that darkness, Miss Hunt emerged as one of our country’s better angels.

Every activist has a mentor and for Marsha, it was none other than Eleanor Roosevelt.  Marsha was one of the very first in Hollywood to support and promote the work of the United Nations because of Mrs. Roosevelt’s participation.  Senator George McGovern was also a strong influence on Marsha and her work with the world anti-hunger movement.  The feeling was mutual, as Senator George McGovern shares in the recent documentary “Marsha Hunt’s Sweet Adversity”. He says this of Marsha:

“You can’t get a really strong citizens’ movement against hunger or any other problem without informed people.  And, what Marsha tried to do was to enlarge what the government was doing by talking about the problems of hunger.  She would lecture on it.  She would support other groups.  She tried to build a fire under Congress to do something about hunger.  So, that was a good period to pick up on that issue.  In many respects, my own political career paralleled with what Marsha was doing.  She was always a source of encouragement to me to do more.”

Over the years here on the home front, Marsha was involved with the very first “walk-a-thons” and telethons for causes such as homelessness, cerebral palsy, and domestic violence.  She is a trailblazing “actor-vist", combining her love for acting and activism, and a shining example of everything that is good, kind, and empathetic.  For these reasons, I hope that you will honor Marsha Hunt by presenting her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Thank you ever so much,

Martin Sheen
