Enforcement of the 'No Pet Policy' at Marriott Vacation Club resorts

Enforcement of the 'No Pet Policy' at Marriott Vacation Club resorts
The Issue
We the undersigned owners and guests of Marriott Vacation Club and all its affiliates ask that Marriott reinstates and enforces it’s No Pet Policy. Because we have noticed an uptick in animals at nearly every Marriott property, and have observed the subsequent misuse and damage that pets leave in their wake, we request these considerations.
We do understand that there are persons who travel with their task trained Service Dogs, and that those animals have a higher level of behavior than a pet would be expected to have. We understand that at any time there may be a few Service Dogs on a given property, as allowed by law.
We further request that Marriott employees are trained to recognize the difference in pet and Service Dog behavior.
We also request that Marriott, as part of its policy, fines any owner of any dog for clean up or damage charges, as allowed by the ADA. We feel that spreading those charges over the whole of the community is fining persons who did not bring their pets on vacation.
We would request that every person who checks in is asked to sign a form stating that they are complying with the No Pet Policy, and understand that they will be fined if they indeed are bringing a pet onto the property. This form could have a list of nearby kennels to accommodate those persons who inadvertently brought a pet with them.
Those who have Service Dogs should be asked the two allowed questions as outlined by the ADA. Their behavior may then be observed as is allowed by law.
Some examples why we would like MVC/MVW to take action:
- More and more owners/guests are bringing their pets on vacation, as discussed on numerous owner forums, and using Marriott's non-action to get away with it.
- Pet owners that follow the rules get frustrated because other pet owners are not following the rules.
- Dogs barking around the resort and in the room/villa is not acceptable to owners, and is clearly against the rules of each resort.
- Owners/guests are 'sneaking' their pets in, which means the resort staff may not know the pet was there, and the room/villa will not be cleaned appropriately for the next owner/guest. The next owner/guest may have an allergy.
- In almost all reported cases where this rule is abused, it is obvious the animal in question is not a service animal, based on their actions, yet Marriott responds with, "there is nothing we can do" or "we do not want to get sued". Proper training would resolve this.
