E P started this petition to President of Peninsula Place Homeowners Association Marlene Veach

With recent incidents involving auto theft/break-ins and vandalism, let alone home burglaries mentioned in prior newsletters, we are calling for Peninsula Place Homeowners Association to take responsible and necessary actions immediately to increase the security and safety of residents who reside at Peninsula Place.

While I am glad to hear that security cameras will be installed, which hasn’t happened yet, it is important to understand that cameras are a deterrent tool and not a solution.

Unauthorized individuals who enter the premise can simply bypass the camera by means of wearing a mask or covering up with a hood. Additionally, in the event of a power outage, the cameras are completely useless. We need solutions that prevent unauthorized access from happening in the first place. Should there be a vulnerable spot that was compromised, that’s where the security cameras and security guards become the second or third line of defense. That’s where we assess the spots that were compromised and immediately patch it.

Some of the security actions we want Peninsula Place Homeowners Association to take include, but aren’t limited to the following:

1) Include a 24-hour gated entrance, similar to what Crown Colony in Daly City does.

2) Expand the fences around the condominiums, let alone upgrade the current fence to more resilient ones. The current wire fence is a huge weak point, where one can simply climb over it or use wire cutters to gain access. Additionally, right along Cherry Ave, there’s practically no fence or gate that prevent any unauthorized access.

3) Convert the car ports into garages or at least something similar to prevent individuals from stealing and/or vandalizing our vehicles.

Taking action on #1 and #2 takes precedence over #3, as addressing these two first dramatically decreases the chances that unauthorized access will happen in the first place.

Lastly, security is an essential and not a luxury, so we are calling that any additional security measures should not equate to an increase to our HOA fees.

Thank you
