Tell Bakkavor Alresford Salads to stop polluting the Upper Itchen protected chalk streams
The Issue
Bakkavör plc supplies leading retailers, including M&S, Sainsbury's and Waitrose, with fresh produce such as watercress, baby leaf and organic salads and herbs. 'Bakkavör’s Alresford Salads' factory has a long history of polluting the Upper Itchen. Acetamiprid, is one of a cocktail of 40 plus chemicals regularly discharged into the River Itchen, from the company's salad washing plant.
The pesticide Acetamiprid is harmful to aquatic life. Data from a recent Freedom of Information request by Salmon & Trout Conservation shows that levels of Acetamiprid, a pesticide discharged by Bakkavör plc, have regularly exceeded acceptable concentrations by a factor of up to four times, the lethal dose (chronic and acute Regulatory Acceptable Concentration (RAC).
Sign the petition calling on Bakkavo to stop their discharge immediately until they can be certain they are not discharging pesticides above regulatory standards.
Ask Bakkavor to clean up its act and behave as a responsible business and take action to remove Acetamiprid and other pesticides from its discharge.
