Alan Maloney, a white wrestling referee with a history of making racial remarks/actions, recently forced Andrew Johnson, a young African-American high school wrestler, to either cut his dreadlocks on spot or forfeit the match. Johnson did the former, and even won the match afterwards. Forcing this ultimatum onto Johnson was utterly inappropriate, humiliating, and superfluous. Andrew Johnson had been allowed to wrestle up until this point, and he even had a cover for his dreadlocks (that Alan Maloney refused to allow). Johnson's dreadlocks gave him no advantage. This type of behavior is unacceptable and certainly cannot be tolerated. We call for the termination of employment of Alan Maloney immediately.
