Ban the National Anthem

The Issue

Francis Scott Key wrote the lyrics to what is known as the Star-Spangled Banner. It is our country's national anthem. Francis was a slave owner, and a man who used his leverage as U.S. Attorney to suppress abolitionist. Key secured a grand jury against Benjamin Lundy, editor of the anti-slavery publication, the Genius of Universal Emancipation. This also shows that Francis opposed the Freedom of speech for everyone. The third stanza ( And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wiped out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.) has been omitted rightfully due to it's in humane words about hirelings and slaves, but anything in the spotlight from a man who doesn't represent us today is a great failure. March 3, 1931 the day it officially became our National anthem the song was not meant for Blacks and other minority's. We weren't considered American during that day in age. Francis Scott Key's walk through life does not exemplify what America stands for. Francis Scott Key didn't steer toward what we strive for as a country. It's time to ban this relic and replace it with something that stands for all Americans today. No America is not perfect, but we positively act towards perfection.
