"Marites" : Gossipmongers should Not be Tolerated  

Gossipmongers, also called as "Marites" in Filipino term is someone who spreads rumors. They spread wrong informations, stories far from reality and assumptions with no factual evidences. And in today's modern world, with the use of internet makes it even more rampant. This can happen anywhere in the community, in the  workplace, in school and even in social gatherings. Spreading rumors which is very untrue about a person affects her or him, not in a good way but rather in a negative and destructive way.  Issues like this also has a big impact to the community.

The effect of untrue rumors can damage the person's reputation and ruin his or her career. Furthermore, rumors and gossip can become harmful to the person's health as it can cause exhaustion,anxiety and depression. This can even escalate to physical violence and long term physical and mental health issues including clinical depression, posttraumatic stress disorder and even suicide (Anander,2020). And the effect of this in a community is that it brings chaos and if not stopped can cause bigger problems such as involvement of more people and greater conflicts between the two parties.

This issue should not be taken lightly but seriously. Gossipmongers or what we call "Marites" should face the consequence of their wrongful doings. Government officials as well must take an action on this matter, in solving and preventing the issue. There should be an ordinance regarding this matter as justice must be served. For community without "Marites" is a place where peope can live peacefully and harmoniously.
