The Issue

I'm sharing my experience to raise awareness about the concerns I have with the aftercare program operated by Amy’s Cool Club. As a working mom, I rely on aftercare to be a safe, supportive, and developmentally appropriate environment for my child.

I have personally witnessed staff failing to provide a nurturing environment, and my conversations with other parents confirm that many families have experienced similar issues. The restrictive, punitive atmosphere simply does not align with what young children need after a long school day.

This petition is to ensure that Amy is not contracted by Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD) for the new district-run aftercare program. Our children deserve a wholesome, safe, and constructive caregiving environment, and it is crucial that LVUSD carefully evaluates the individuals and organizations chosen to care for our kids. There are many exceptional providers with strong track records in childcare, and our district should partner with those who reflect our community’s standards and expectations.

I want to be very clear that I’m not trying to stop Amy from running her own aftercare program — many families love it, and that’s great. However, I’ve recently heard she’s being considered to run the new LVUSD aftercare, and as far as I understand, that may be the only option offered. Given how many families have had concerns with Cool Club, it would be a real disappointment if she were the sole provider for district aftercare.

I urge parents and community members to support this effort. Our children’s emotional well-being and development should never be compromised by substandard care. By signing this petition, you are helping advocate for a safer, healthier, more positive aftercare experience for all LVUSD students.

Thank you for standing with me to protect and support our kids.
