Over the last few years, the hours for each of the three access gates to MCAS Miramar have been constantly changing and sometimes confusing. The Marines and Sailors who are residents aboard the base are affected by this more than others, because our entrances to the base outside of working hours are restricted. 

Currently, the ‘East Gate’ is the only 24/7 gate, and if anyone who lives on the air station wishes to travel off base, this can add unnecessary time to commutes to areas like Mira Mesa, La Jolla, Encinitas, and even Camp Pendleton. Moving the 24/7 gate back to the ‘North Gate’ would not only be more convenient, but safer for Marines as the travel time to many of the popular places on Miramar Road and Mira Mesa Blvd would be greatly reduced. 

If this cannot be changed, we wish for extended hours for the ‘North Gate’, to include after working hours and weekends to facilitate faster and easier travel. If this cannot be achieved, we wish to be briefed on the reasons and justifications why this cannot be achieved.
