What we want
The Issue
From what our teachers and school administrators have been telling us, we have two options for reopening our schools: either we go back to school for in-person instruction after Thanksgiving break (after anticipated spikes that we won’t know much about for 2+ weeks), or we don't get to return to in-person instruction for the rest of the school year. This causes problems for people in situations (Immunocompromised, elderly, very young siblings, and other situations) where they (or a family member) may be more at risk for COVID-19. Additionally, many people don't have access to enough devices to do learning online, or cannot go back for one reason or another. This is a lose-lose situation for many people.
Why am I starting this petition? I am asking for us to create more options, such as going back after the new year, outdoor tent structures, etc... Plus, our teachers always tell us it is important to stand up for what we believe in, and this is just the way to do that. If you are an adult with a student in a Marin County school and want to sign, there are other petitions made for adults that they may be more likely to see, but if you cannot find any, feel free to sign this one.
We need our voices to be heard, and we need flexibility for families and students with different needs. Positioning in-person schooling as “now or never”, and having only two inflexible options isn’t going to solve the problem, and many of us will suffer in school in the process. Please take a few minutes to sign this petition, and ask for more options. Everybody's voice matters.
