Punish Mickey the Pit Bull for Mauling Kevin Vicente

The Issue

Mickey is a pit bull.  But he's not an ordinary pit bull.  He does not participate in helping to protect small children like any good dog does.  He does not bark out danger when he sees it so an innocent child may flee.  Instead, he is the danger.

In a small backyard in South Phoenix, AZ, Mickey attacked Kevin Vicente, a small 4 year old boy who merely wanted to play with a creature he considered a friend.  But instead of a friend, he found a vicious creature who lunged at him and caused him to sustain extensive facial injuries requiring multiple surgeries and permanent scarring.  News reports indicate that Kevin's injuries were so horrific that hospital workers were traumatized after seeing them.

What was Kevin's crime? Reaching for a small bone that was lying on the ground.  The bone may of may not have belonged to Kevin.  Perhaps it was property of Mickey the pit bull.  But does such a small action by an innocent boy deserve such an outcome?

Mickey must be held to account the same way that any creature should be.  Just as some human beings may choose evil as their way in life, and are punished, so too must Mickey accept the fate of justice.  The scale of justice is blind to the species that commits the crime.  It only sees the intent and action.  In this case, the intent is clear.  And the action is visible for all to see.

Petition for Mickey to be punished for his actions.
