Recognise Misophonia

The Issue

You've come across Misophonia online. You read this: ''Misophonia, literally "hatred of sound", is a neurological disorder in which negative experiences (anger, flight, hatred, disgust) are triggered by specific sounds.''

But, you won't understand much about it unless you are someone suffering with Misophonia yourself, very little if you know someone with it and probably nothing at all if you don't.

Although Misophonia is said to be a ''rare'' condition, how can we tell when it is not yet recognised?

We hear stories from other sufferers of how they tell their doctor about their Misophonia, only to be laughed at!

Some people have been suffering with this disorder since the ages of 4 and 5. Knowing that this is something we will have to face for the rest our lives is very daunting.

It is vital that Misophonia is recognised urgently. Everywhere a sufferer goes they enter a battlefield of triggers; whether it's at school, in the workplace, out shopping or even at home. It means dreading going to these places and doing these daily activities in life.

As if the triggering sounds, such as coughing, sniffing, and eating weren't bad enough, many of us are triggered by images we observe out of the corners of our eyes.

With no known cure and very little research, it is time for change; time for the World Health Organization (WHO) and other organizations to recognise Misophonia.

If you do not suffer from Misophonia or do not understand it; please give your respect regardless, and sign our petition to Recognise Misophonia.
