Mandatory overtime labor laws limit for the sake of humanity

The Issue

A personal and painful experience propels me to start this petition. I, like countless other laborers, feel immense exhaustion and dissatisfaction from being coerced into working long and grueling hours by businesses that only seek to maximize their profits. Despite our hard-earned sweat and tears, we rarely get to partake in the pleasures of life that we work towards. The current labor laws provide too much freedom to businesses, enabling them to mandate disproportionate working hours and wear down our spirits.

It is time for the government to redefine labor laws, prioritizing the welfare of the workers. Everyone should be allowed to enjoy, cherish and have a say in how their lives unfold. We propose that labor laws be rewritten to prevent businesses from exploiting individuals by making them work more than 9 hours per day without the consent of the individual working, with a limit of the 5 day work week.

We are not alone in our struggles. A study by the Center for WorkLife Law at the University of California, Hastings, found that overwork not only undermines wellbeing but also disintegrates social bonds, subsequently resulting in a society that inhabits physical burnout and social depression (Kim Krisberg, 2014, "Overworked America: 12 Charts that will Make Your Blood Boil").

We implore lawmakers to heed our plight and take firm action to limit working hours per day. This beneficial reform will undoubtedly foster a more balanced, wholesome, and congenial environment for all working individuals. This petition is not just about redefining labor laws to limit daily working hours, it's about reclaiming our lives from the grips of unregulated capitalism. Sign this petition and join us in creating a future where work-life balance is more than a mere concept – it's reality.
