On behalf of my sister, a courageous individual confined to a wheelchair, this petition is more than a demand; it is a plea born from personal experience. She faces daily challenges navigating our public infrastructure, where accessibility remains disappointingly inadequate. To her, and countless others in our society like her, reaching a classroom in her school should not be a daily uphill climb.

In the United States, nearly 2.7 million people over the age of 15 years use a wheelchair. They regularly face accessibility challenges that extend beyond personal inconvenience, impacting their education, employment opportunities, and social engagements. By making wheelchair accessibility mandatory in all public buildings, we are breaking down those barriers and taking a significant step towards inclusivity.

The signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990 was groundbreaking, but three decades have lapsed, and complete implementation remains lingering. This petition aims to rekindle that movement, demanding our local, state, and federal governments to mandate comprehensive wheelchair accessibility in all public buildings. Fostering inclusivity ensures everyone, regardless of physical ability, enjoys the basic rights and experiences our society has to offer.
