Mandate Trigger Warnings for Sexual Assault and Violence on News Updates and Netflix

The issue

I am a survivor. A survivor of kidnapping, sexual assault, not once but twice. It's a personal struggle that I live with every day. My story is not unique; there are countless others like me who have to navigate through life bearing the scars of such traumatic experiences.

The media we consume daily, whether it be news updates or shows on platforms like Netflix, often contain graphic depictions of violence or sexual assault without any prior warning. This can trigger painful memories for survivors like me and many others.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, Almost 2 million Australian adults have experienced at least 1 sexual assault since the age of 15. This statistic alone highlights the magnitude of this issue and how many people could potentially be affected by such triggers in media content.

We are asking for a simple solution - mandatory trigger warnings before content that includes scenes of sexual assault or violence on all news updates and streaming platforms like Netflix. These warnings will allow survivors to mentally prepare themselves or choose not to view certain content if they feel it might be harmful to their mental health.

Let's create a safer environment for survivors by acknowledging their struggles and respecting their boundaries. Please sign this petition today so we can make this change happen together.
