I am writing this petition on behalf of my 90-year-old mother who suffers from Alzheimer's and myself, a patient of Fibromyalgia and Emphysema. Our neighbour's tree overhangs three-quarters of our garden, shedding leaves, acorns, catkins, twigs, and pigeon droppings from the nesting pigeons. This constant mess not only makes our garden maintenance challenging but also drains us physically when we are already battling health issues.

We believe that tree owners should be responsible for the maintenance and pruning of their trees to ensure they do not cause a nuisance to neighbouring properties. It is unfair that we shoulder the burden of cleaning up this mess which is not ours to begin with.

According to a study by the National Association of Realtors (NAR), poorly maintained trees can decrease property value by up to 10%. Furthermore, falling branches can pose serious safety risks. Therefore it isn't just about aesthetics or convenience; it's about safety and financial implications as well.

We urge lawmakers to enact legislation requiring all tree owners be held accountable for maintaining their trees so they do not infringe upon neighbouring properties or pose potential dangers.
