Mandate the Teaching of History in All Levels of Nigerian Education

Mandate the Teaching of History in All Levels of Nigerian Education
The Issue
I am a concerned citizen, deeply troubled by the growing identity crisis among Nigerians. This crisis, I believe, stems from our collective failure to look inward for growth and development. The root cause? A lack of understanding and knowledge about our own history. Without knowing where we come from, how can we possibly know where we are going?
In Nigeria today, history, as a subject, is not taught- from primary to tertiary levels. This has resulted in generations of Nigerians who are disconnected from their past and uncertain about their future.
According to UNESCO's 2017/18 Global Education Monitoring Report, less than half of Nigerian students complete lower secondary education (9 years), let alone have access to quality historical education that is crucial for shaping national identity and fostering unity.
This petition seeks to change this reality. We call on the Federal Ministry of Education in Nigeria to mandate the teaching of history at all levels - primary through tertiary - so that every Nigerian student can learn about their heritage, understand their present circumstances better and navigate towards a prosperous future with confidence.
We cannot afford any more generations growing up without knowing who they are or where they come from. Let us equip them with knowledge about their past so they can confidently shape Nigeria's future.
Please sign this petition if you believe that history should be taught at all levels in Nigerian schools.
