Mandate the Entry of Domestic Violence Convictions into a Registry
The Issue
I am a survivor of domestic violence. My experience is not unique, and unfortunately, it is shared by many others who have suffered at the hands of repeat offenders. The pain and trauma inflicted by these individuals are immeasurable, but what's even more disturbing is that many continue to commit such heinous acts with impunity.
As per the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men in the United States experience severe intimate partner physical violence. These figures are alarming and highlight an urgent need for change.
We propose that all domestic violence convictions be mandatorily entered into a national registry. This would serve as an essential tool for law enforcement agencies to track repeat offenders effectively, potentially saving lives in the process.
This registry could also provide crucial information to those entering new relationships, allowing them to make informed decisions about their safety. It could serve as an additional layer of protection for potential victims while acting as a deterrent for perpetrators.
We call on lawmakers to enact legislation requiring this critical step towards protecting victims of domestic violence. Your signature can help us bring about this much-needed change; sign our petition today.
