To foster a more equitable and compassionate society, we must prioritize protecting individuals experiencing homelessness. Currently, no universal legislation across all states exists to safeguard this vulnerable population's rights. The enactment of a statewide Homeless Bill of Rights has been proposed in certain individual states, but there's a desperate need for such protection nationwide.

The National Coalition for the Homeless reports that one in every 187 Americans experiences homelessness. Furthermore, they face continual discrimination, criminalization, and basic human rights violations. Universal and standardized legal protections can offer a much-needed shield for these individuals.

We call upon legislators in every state of the U.S to endorse and adopt a comprehensive Homeless Bill of Rights. Such legislation would guarantee individuals experiencing homelessness rights such as access to safe shelter,
affordable housing, employment, medical and mental health care, voting rights, and freedom from discrimination, including that from police and the legal system.
