Mandate Spokane ISD to Distribute Mandatory Parental Education via Email

Mandate Spokane ISD to Distribute Mandatory Parental Education via Email
The Issue
As a busy parent attempting family responsibilities and the education of my child, as many can relate, I recently found difficulty with the Spokane School District's current system for parental education awareness. It is difficult for many of us to attend mandatory education review for our children. More critically, when needing to access information regarding new regulations on sexual health education, I was denied an emailed version of this essential instruction.
Under the current law, Spokane ISD has the discretion to distribute education materials via email upon request. This fact underscores the crux of my appeal. Understandably, there are parents who may be able to attend in-person sessions, but there are many of us who can't due to various reasons - work schedules, childcare constraints, transport issues, or health concerns.
Emailing mandatory educational presentations to parents allows everyone to access the information, no matter their circumstances. The convenience of digital access empowers us to better guide our children through their educational journey. It is especially critical in today's society, where the necessity for informed discussions about health and safety is more important than ever.
In the Spokane School District, there are approximately 31,000 students. Assuming two parents per child on average, this change could directly impact the lives of over 60,000 residents (source: Spokane Public Schools, 2020 census data). Implementing this policy will ensure that all parents within the ISD can stay informed and engaged with the education of their children, regardless of their personal circumstances.
I ask for your support in this change by signing our petition. Together, let's call upon the Spokane ISD to commit to ensuring fair access to education for all parents. Let's strive for a more inclusive, informative education system that respects the diversity in all families' lives. Please sign this petition.
