Mandate Specialized Training for Coaches on ADHD in sports

Mandate Specialized Training for Coaches on ADHD in sports
The Issue
I am a person with ADHD and throughout my sports experiences, I can attest to being treated differently by peers and coaches. Many times, I felt misunderstood and singled out due to my different needs. This is a common occurrence and a distressing story for many young people with ADHD participating in sports.
ADHD affects approximately 1.8 million children in Canada, according to national health data. These young athletes, like me, have unique needs and abilities that are often overlooked in sports settings. The lack of understanding can lead to negative experiences that may hinder our growth and enjoyment.
The fact is, when coaches, who are central figures in the lives of many young athletes, aren't equipped with the right knowledge and understanding of ADHD, it could lead to significant psychological and emotional damage.
To address the issue, we propose a compulsory course for coaches that will cover effective strategies for coaching a child with ADHD. With this training, we expect coaches to be equipped with a more in-depth understanding of ADHD, enabling them to provide an inclusive, supportive, and respectful environment for children with ADHD.
For everyone who believes in equality, respecting differences, and cherishes the growth and happiness of every child regardless of their situation, make your voice heard. Support the cause by signing this petition. Together, we can make a changes
this petition will be sent to the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). This will pressure them into making a course that coaches have to take to get certified to be able to coach. This will allow the athletes to be noticed and be coached to be able to play their sports.
