Many of you will agree that it’s convenient they reject petitions made by other platforms and not themselves . We must sign and share the new link. It so important to have our voices heard on this ludicrous decision that isn’t fit for purpose in many of the areas in Westcliff/Southend and the westborough ward.
Thank you all for your support
Living in Westcliff-on-Sea, particularly in a converted house with limited space, presents unique challenges. The introduction of mandatory rubbish bins by Southend Council, specifically on side roads deemed suitable by SUEZ, is problematic for many of us here in the Westborough Ward and other areas in both Westcliff, Southend and even Shoeburyness . For residents on roads like Ronald Park Avenue, space is already scarce. Cars are parked along the narrow pathways, leaving little room to accommodate bins alongside traffic and pedestrians.
SUEZ’s assertion that these roads are appropriate for traditional bin collections fails to consider the logistical hurdles faced by residents. Many homes in our area have been converted into flats, with minimal, if any, front garden space. Introducing rubbish bins without adequate storage solutions exacerbates the congestion and presents further inconvenience to the residents, including myself.
Moreover, the task of maneuvering these bins from tightly packed garden areas, often down steps, and onto the pavement for collection is a significant burden, especially for the elderly or those with physical limitations. Unlike traditional sack collections, which are easier to manage in constrained spaces, bins demand space we simply do not have.
The current proposal does not take into account the diverse living conditions and infrastructure complexity of our community. Implementing such a plan without thorough assessment and community feedback puts resident harmony and daily routines at risk.
I advocate for Southend Council to urgently reassess this strategy before its planned implementation in October. The council must engage with local residents to gather insights and develop a waste collection solution that genuinely accommodates our unique needs and spatial restrictions.
Sign this petition to urge Southend Council to conduct a reassessment that prioritizes the practical realities of rubbish collection in our community. Together, we can ensure a plan that respects our living conditions and maintains the quality of life in Westborough Ward and other areas of Westcliff and Southend .
