As someone who grew up attending schools with school resource officers (SROs), I am acutely aware of the crucial role they played in maintaining security and safety during school hours. These officers were not just uniformed protectors but integral part of our learning community. In today's turbulent times, I believe we can all agree on the necessity of ensuring the highest level of safety measures for the sake of our children. Their ability to learn and thrive is paramount, and they deserve to do so in a secure environment.

But currently, not all Fulton County schools have SROs. This raises concerns for the children and staff members at these educational institutions. Research from the National Association of School Resource Officers indicates that well-implemented SRO programs can lead to safer school environments [NASRO, 2015]. Also, the FBI found in a report that having officers on campus can "substantially reduce" crimes in schools [FBI, 2014].

By requiring all Fulton County schools to have SROs, we not only better protect our students and staff but also invest in the peace of mind for parents and the community at large. Safety should never be an optional addition, but an integral part of our educational institutions.
