Mandate Safer Alternatives for Medical Marijuana Users in Florida

The Issue

I am one amongst several Floridians who are negatively impacted by the prevalent use of prescribed marijuana. Not as users ourselves, but innocent bystanders suffering the repercussions - physically and mentally - due to exposure to the smell of marijuana smoke. Each exposure event leads to severe allergic reactions, including brain and chest pains, and poor circulation. This is the reality for us non-users who find ourselves in the vicinity of marijuana smokers.

The situation does not only warrant a personal dilemma but also presents a statewide concern. We must ensure that all marijuana users seek alternatives that are safer not only for them but also for the people around them. Non-smokers should not have to endure health issues due to others' prescription usage.

These alternatives should veer away from smoking-related options, with focus shifting to non-smoking prescriptions like pills or injections. Such options do not endanger non-users, thus ensuring a healthier, safer environment. Moreover, programs that offer assistance to marijuana users, guiding them on how to transition safer alternatives should also be established.

In Florida, as per the Marijuana Policy Project, over 450,000 people use marijuana legally for their medical conditions. A shift to an alternate form of consumption like pills or injections would drastically reduce the secondary smoke-related issues faced by the general public. Addressing and mitigating these health risks is important in creating a balanced environment where everyone's rights are recognized and respected.

We implore our government in Florida to implement policies that mandate marijuana users to explore and use safer alternatives, ones that ensure the safety and well-being of others. Sign this petition now to support us in building a safer and more inclusive Florida.
