Mandate Review of Referee Calls in Missouri State High School Football Playoffs

Mandate Review of Referee Calls in Missouri State High School Football Playoffs
The Issue
As a parent of children who attend and play football for Lee's Summit North High School, I have witnessed firsthand the impact that referee calls can have on the outcome of a game. The district playoff football game held on November 10, 2023 between Lee's Summit North and Rockhurst High School has raised serious concerns about the fairness and accuracy of these calls.
We are calling upon the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) to institute a policy requiring review of film footage for referee calls during district playoff football games. This is not just about one game or one team; it is about ensuring fair play and accurate officiating in all high school sports across our state.
In professional sports, video reviews are commonplace. The NFL, for example, has used instant replay since 1986 to confirm or overturn certain types of plays (source: NFL). If this level of scrutiny is deemed necessary at the professional level where referees are full-time professionals with extensive training, it seems reasonable to apply similar standards at the high school level where referees may not have as much experience or training.
By implementing this change starting with the game played on November 10th between Lee's Summit North and Rockhurst High Schools, we can ensure that every team gets a fair shot based solely on their performance - not questionable calls.
Please sign this petition to urge MSHSAA to implement video review for referee decisions during district playoff football games starting with the November 10 LSN VS. Rockhurst game with the intent to uphold or reverse the call. The touchdown call resulting in the 14-14 score should be reversed, removing the 7 points.
If both schools agree a rematch for district championship can be held in fair contest.
