Dear Mayor

Like many residents in our community, I enjoy the tranquility and recreation opportunities that our city parks offer. These green spaces mean more than just areas for leisurely walks; they're also the playfields for our children and the exploratory grounds for our pets. 

However, due to lack of proper maintenance, these pathways and parks have become overgrown, posing several hazards to both pets and people. Dogs are suffering, with long grasses trapping seeds inside their paws. Children are at risk too, with the tall foliage obscuring the visibility they need for safe play. The overgrown grass is also an ideal habitat for snakes, dramatically increasing the risk of snake-related incidents in our parks and pathways. Furthermore, the pollen from unmown grass has led to a surge in hayfever cases, causing unnecessary suffering for our neighbours.

Research has shown that regular maintenance of green spaces reduces the presence of pests and weeds, and helps eliminate safety hazards.  

Therefore, it becomes imperative for our city administration to undertake regular mowing and maintenance activities in all our parks and open pathways. Through this petition, we urge our city administrators to prioritize the upkeep of these communal spaces, not merely for their aesthetic beauty but also for the safety and wellbeing of all. Every year we log C3’s. Every year we are told there are tender issues. Every year we suffer. Dear Mayor sort out your procurement! 
Myself and neighbours have recently mowed parts of the park ourselves however the area is too big and too overgrown to do this properly. We pay rates - certainly higher than most areas and yet we get no service! 
We, as concerned citizens, must advocate for the parks and pathways in our city. Let us ensure these spaces remain safe, accessible, and enjoyable for all. Please sign this petition to push for regular maintenance of our city parks and pathways. Brocker park and surrounds are a big concern as are the parks in and around kirstenhof. 
Our ward councillor says her hands are tied and that there is nothing further she can do.

Please escalate the process so that we may enjoy our parks and pathways.
Recreational parks are there to be enjoyed by all.
