BLUF: Politicians do not undergo normal background investigations like normal individuals and Security Clearances are given to positions held. This is a huge threat to the our national security and needs legislative change but the people to change it are the Politicians.

We, the undersigned citizens and concerned residents of the United States, hereby submit this petition to advocate for the introduction of legislation that mandates background checks for all politicians seeking Top Secret clearances, similar to those required for military and civilian employees in the Intelligence Community.

Currently, there is an alarming absence of comprehensive background investigations for politicians, including Legislators, Senators, Members of Congress, and Representatives, who are entrusted with crucial national security responsibilities. Unlike other government employees, their access to Top Secret information does not require them to undergo the rigorous and thorough background checks essential for safeguarding our nation.

We believe that it is imperative to close this glaring loophole in our national security protocol to ensure that individuals in elected office are not posing any threats to the security, integrity, or interests of the United States. By implementing mandatory background checks for politicians seeking Top Secret clearances, we can reinforce our commitment to national security and protect the democratic values upon which our nation is built.
