The Issue

I am deeply concerned about the lack of accountability in policing across the United States. After watching insightful channels like Lackluster and the Civil Rights Lawyer on YouTube, it's evident that our rights are continually violated, and the financial burden of these violations falls on us, the taxpayers.

WE THE PEOPLE have paid a staggering $6.8 billion in lawsuits against police officers for misconduct and rights violations. This is not just a financial strain on our nation but also a fundamental misuse of taxpayer money. Instead of our hard-earned dollars being invested in community development, education, or healthcare, they are being used to pay for the mistakes and misdeeds of those sworn to protect us.

I propose that all police officers should be required to carry personal liability insurance to cover any misconduct or violations. This system would function similarly to car insurance, where after multiple violations—say three strikes—an officer could potentially lose coverage, barring them from further employment in law enforcement. This would instill a degree of personal accountability rarely seen in the current system.

Moreover, to ensure officers understand and respect our constitutional rights, they should be mandated to pass a comprehensive written test on these rights before taking an oath. It's alarming that many officers cannot even recite the five liberties enshrined in the First Amendment, yet they're tasked with upholding these very freedoms.

By implementing these measures, we can bring about a change in the culture of policing, one that truly respects the rights of individuals while safeguarding the integrity of law enforcement.

Let us unite to demand this crucial reform. Sign this petition to send a message that we will no longer accept the financial and moral costs of unchecked police misconduct. This is a pivotal step towards ensuring justice and accountability in our communities.
