I grew up in a family where my siblings knew their fathers, but I did not. This personal experience has left me with a void, a feeling of not knowing who I am or where I come from. It is an emotional burden that no child should have to bear. Therefore, we are calling for legislation that mandates potential "legally identified" fathers to take paternity tests when requested by the child upon reaching legal age.

This is not just about filling an emotional void; it's also about the right to know one's biological history and potential genetic health risks. According to the American Medical Association, knowledge of family health history can be crucial in predicting and diagnosing inherited diseases (AMA Journal of Ethics, 2018). Without access to this vital information, individuals may be at risk.

Moreover, this legislation would uphold children’s rights as outlined by UNICEF - every child has the right to know their parents and have a relationship with them (UN Convention on the Rights of the Child).

It's not a coincidence that a big portion of those in juvenile detentions/jails/prisons don't know who their father is!!
