This petition comes from a place of personal experience and concern. My daughter, who just turned 12, had her belly pierced without my consent. As a parent with parental rights, I was shocked to discover that only one parent's approval was needed for such an invasive procedure on a minor.

Body piercing is not just about aesthetics; it carries potential health risks including infection, allergic reactions, keloids and physical injuries if the piercing gets caught on something. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), minors should understand these risks before getting body piercings and parents should be involved in this decision-making process.

Yet current regulations allow for minors under 16 to get pierced with consent from just one parent or guardian. This undermines the rights of other parents who may have valid concerns about their child's health and wellbeing.

We believe that both parents' voices matter when it comes to decisions affecting their children's bodies and lives. Therefore, we urge lawmakers to amend existing regulations requiring both parents' consent for any body piercing procedure performed on a child under 16 years old who has parental rights.

My story.

Finding out that my daughter that only just turnt 12 was allowed to get her belly button pierce, with just one parent consent! 

I would of not allowed my daughter to get this done, as I believe she is far too young, and it made her more vulnable, and I didn't want my daughter having her belly button pierce.

Sexualising children, making them look older than what they are!

If I had the opportunity to speak, I would of not allowed this to happen!!!

I have parental rights, but yet had no say on my daughter that just turnt 12 getting  a part of body pierce like that!

How is it fair that I got asked if they could bleach my daughter hair, but I didn't get asked if my child could get her belly button pierce!!!

This isnt fair!!! This isn't OK! And I'm not going to stop until everyone signs my petition!!!!!

I feel so strongly about this, because I should of had a say in decision like this, and because of the law, her father or my self could pierce our children with out either of our permission, and I don't think that OK and I don't think that fair!!!!

I'm so angry that this has happened to my self, and being active parent in my daughter life. And not getting told they where doing this, I just don't think it fair!!
