Mandate Online Grocery Stores to Accept WIC for Accessible Nutrition

The Issue

My name is [Change.org User] and I'm currently living without a personal vehicle. My family and I rely on public assistance, specifically the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, to help us meet our nutritional needs. We, along with many others in similar situations, would greatly benefit if renowned online grocery stores such as Amazon Fresh, HEB Curbside, and others would accept WIC as a form of payment. This would facilitate the delivery of nutritious food directly to our home, ensuring no family lacks proper sustenance due to the absence of transportation.

In 2020, close to 6.2 million people remained dependent on the WIC nutrition program, showcasing the significant number of individuals who would gain from this policy change (U.S. Department of Agriculture, 2020). In the same year, reports found that 3.6 million households were without cars, with low-income households constituting a significant portion (U.S. Department of Transportation, 2020).

By not accepting WIC online, countless households like mine are denied access to nutritious foods that we are eligible for. This issue amounts to a significant barrier in our striving towards a healthier and sustainable lifestyle.

It is necessary that we call upon these online grocery platforms to extend their support, by accepting WIC payments. It is a simple but powerful step in enabling better equity, accessibility, and convenience in nutrition access across the U.S. Please, sign this petition to support the campaign for ensuring necessary food security for everyone, including those restricted by the lack of transportation.
