Mandate No Discrimination Against Pet Owners in Senior's Homes

Mandate No Discrimination Against Pet Owners in Senior's Homes
The Issue
As someone who has experienced the difficulties and heart-wrenching consequences of housing discrimination against pet owners first-hand, I know the importance of this issue. I currently live contentedly in a pet-friendly housing cooperative, however, in the past I was compelled to break the 'no pets' rule to have a cat in a rental accommodation which led to my eviction. I firmly believe having a pet does not degrade the value or integrity of a home, rather it enhances the sense of responsibility and enriches our daily lives through companionship.
Senior citizens benefit from pet ownership. Studies indicate that pets contribute to lowering blood pressure, lessening anxiety, and boosting mental well-being. A report from the National Poll on Healthy Aging found that 88% of pet owners aged 50 to 80 said their pets helped them enjoy life and feel loved, furthering the cause why pet ownership should never serve as grounds for discrimination in senior's homes.
We need to address this critical issue by establishing a law that prohibits landlords, BC Housing, senior's homes and facilities and housing co-operatives from enforcing biased policies against pet owners. People who wish to provide a loving home for a pet should not be penalized or ostracized from housing options. Please support this petition to the provincial government, to ensure equitable housing rights for all, irrespective of their choice to be a pet parent. Sign now! Join the rally to eliminate discrimination against pet owners in British Columbia.
