I am a resident of Santa Rosa County, deeply invested in the well-being and development of our children. I firmly believe that recess plays a crucial role in improving health and enhancing learning among middle school students.

Research has shown that regular breaks during the school day can boost students' physical health, social skills, and academic performance. The American Academy of Pediatrics states that "recess serves as a necessary break from the rigors of concentrated, academic challenges" and provides "cognitive benefits" (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2013). Despite these findings, many middle schools in our county do not provide sufficient recess time.

This petition seeks to mandate at least 15 minutes of recess for all middle schools within Santa Rosa County. By implementing this change, we can ensure our children have an opportunity to rest their minds, engage in physical activity and return to class refreshed and ready to learn.
